<\/span>At many a Summer dawn to enter

<\/span>to stop at Phoenician trading centers,
<\/span>and to buy good merchandise,
<\/span>mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
<\/span>and sensuous perfumes of every kind,
<\/span>sensuous perfumes as lavishly as you can;
<\/span>to visit many Egyptian cities,
<\/span>to gather stores of knowledge from the learned.<\/span><\/p>\n
<\/span>Your arrival there is what you are destined for.
<\/span>But don’t in the least hurry the journey.
<\/span>Better it last for years,
<\/span>so that when you reach the island you are old,
<\/span>rich with all you have gained on the way,
<\/span>not expecting Ithaka to give you wealth.|
<\/span>Ithaka gave you a splendid journey.
<\/span>Without her you would not have set out.
<\/span>She hasn’t anything else to give you.<\/span><\/p>\n
<\/span>So wise you have become, of such experience,
<\/span>that already you’ll have understood what these Ithakas mean.<\/span><\/p>\n
